kasauli

Was in Kasauli for a short Trip on 14th July 2013 and in the morning we went for a short walk. Half way through the walk I couldn’t resist the Beauty of the place and stopped at one point where I could see the Beautiful Trees, Large Mountains and the Rising Sun.

I sat there for some times and my mind started sewing some words. What I wrote at that moment is presented below.

Dance, Masti, Smiles- A Short 31 Second Video

A self made short 31 Second video capturing the Dance Masti of a few foodies.

There are Times that you feel like creating some thing. A Blog,  Quote, A Story, Probably Click a pic And I was going through this phase and now wanted to CREATE some thing different.

Those Days The HAPPY SONG by Pharrell Williams was quite a rage and everyone was making one of their own in School, College, office.

I thought why not do our own version with  Eatlo family who were supposed to meet in a day for Breakfast at Novelty, Jang Pura, New Delhi.

With my Phone in hand I requested every one to do a few moves. Some Obliged and most of them did not. But I did have some recording and wanted to use it in some way. So called upa a friend of mien and share it with him and told him “Do whatever best you can do with it”

And here is the Final Product. a 31 Second video.

Thanks to everyone who participated with full Masti. And this shall be repeated soon some day, better than This, longer than this :-)

Till the time you can see old Videos and Subscribe to my You Tube channel.

Q:           What is Very good Art?

A:            Very Good Art is when most of the people understand that thought process.

Message in Massage

It was 8 am on a Wednesday morning, when 27 year old Ankur woke up in his Vijay Nagar PG.

He has been living here for the past 5 years. First 3 years, when he did his Eco (Hons) from Hindu College and then stayed here even after he got a job in a Data Analytics company in Gurgaon.

Normally he would get up at 6 and would be on road by 8 to reach his Office by 9.

But today was a different story. It was a Holiday on Account of Sri Krishan Janamashtami.

As soon as he woke up he did what every youngster or even older people do these days. Check the updates on Phone.

Facebook Notifications, WhatsApp Messages, Mails and these days even GroupOn Deal Notifications.

He loves dining out and follows FB Page Eatlo for recommendations and then also used to search some good deals on GroupOn and hence had installed an App.

The Notification said “Spa Deals from Rs 599”

Screenshots_2014-08-28-11-17-44

This got his attention and he surfed further and saw some great deals offering 65% Discount. One Such deal was for Rs 599, the actual  cost of it was Rs 1500.  It was at Sohna Road in Gurgaon where he worked.

As it is, he leaves early from office and comes back home late, so he decided taking a Gurgaon Voucher would be perfect for a Friday evening after office.

He immediately fetched out his Credit Card and paid for it.

After paying he got up from his bed to go and fetch the newspaper from the main door and wished his Maid “Namaste”. The Maid “Sarita Didi” who was sweeping the Living area was stunned as this is not what happens daily.

And she asked him “Why are you Smiling Bhaiya” . He said nothing and just moved on. But realized that yes…. He was happy after doing this Online Purchase.

The Only Condition that the Voucher mentioned was to bring the Print-out along.  And that is what was troubling him. He didn’t have a printer at home and was not comfortable to print it at office, lest everyone knows about his Friday plans and makes him a Butt of their Jokes for next few days.

Anyways, the day ended after having Fish from “Sawhney Macchi” at Kingsway Camp and he slept to get up early next day.

Thursday morning he got up at 6, reached office by 9 and started his usual Routine. But the thought of taking the print didn’t leave his mind.

Today Sarita Didi was on a Holiday and hence he didn’t get his Lunch Packed. So he decided to step down from his office during lunch and have Reckitt Benckiser Building wale Matar Kulche.

And while having it his Eyes got struck on a small Shop which said “Photocopy, Print & Lamination”

Photostat

He thought to himself, there was a time when these Shops had written STD/ISD/PCO written all over and how during his college days he used these booths to call his parents back home in Sagrur, Punjab.

But due the advent of Mobile Phones, the Public Call Trade has been swept out.

And while he was thinking this, He looked at his Mobile and there was another Notification from GroupOn. “Buffet Meal for 2 at Hotel Red Fox, AeroCity” And then his mind opened… “Hey I wanted a Printout and here is the place….Woaah””

Ankur finished his Matar Kulcha and rushed towards the shop and asked him “Bhaiya Print kitne ka?”

Bhaiya replied back… Pen Drive se Loge to Dus Rupye aur Email ke Pachees.

Ankur replied “Email se”.

Bhaiya: “Lo jee fir [email protected] par mail kar do & I will open my Mail and print it.

Ankur Fished out his Samsung S3 and mailed the Voucher to Posh Photostat.

Bhaiya Opened his Email Account…. Opened the Mail, Gave the Print Command and here it was.

Printout for the SPA SERVICES he was going to avail this Friday evening!!

The Paper quality was not very good and even the colour of the paper was Pale yellow instead of white. But that rarely mattered. What mattered was the PRINT.

With a Smile on His face and an extra Hop in his step he went to the office, finished his Work with more vigour &came back to his PG in Vijay Nagar by 9 pm.

Sarita Didi had made Matar Pulao with Nutrella Soya Chunks this evening. She also had kept Salad and Chutney along with it as accompaniments.

He had his meal and slept as soon as his head hit the pillow.

Next morning when the alarm sounded at 6, he got up. He realized that it’s start of the weekend and also the day when would be pampering himself with a Massage and probably some Wine along with an Italian Meal Later at newly opened Restaurant It-Alia in Gurgaon.

Wearing his Indus League Khaki’s along with his Maroon Coloured Polo T-shirt he left for office, but not before letting Sarita Didi know that he would be having his dinner outside, so she should not bother to cook for the evening.

He got down the 2nd floor PG and stepped inside the Office Cab. Thank God that his Company had changed the Entire fleet of Rickety Toyota Qualis to the Smooth Toyota Innova. Travelling to office was so much good now even when they were 8 people in the car meant for 6.

In Office Ankur reached for his phone and called the Spa giving reference of his Voucher to book an Appointment for 6 pm. And was pleased to know that the slot was available and had been confirmed. Although he would have agreed for 7 pm or 8 pm slot too. But that would mean killing Time elsewhere and reaching home quite late.

The day seemed so long that Ankur almost did 2 days work in that one day till the clock finally struck 5.

He waived goodbyes to his colleagues who were busy making drinking plans for the evening at Nearby Ahata or at the new Drinking Hole that had opened on the Golf Course road recently.

Ankur didn’t want to be caught by them, so quietly slipped out of the door and walked towards the Auto Stand.

He had already told his office Cab Driver that he would not be going back in the cab tonight, so was relaxed.

At the Auto Stand he took an Auto for Sohna Road and while covering that 5 km distance he could hear his heart Pound faster and louder.

Once inside the shopping Complex where the Spa was located, he walked across several of them while reaching the Spa of which he had the Voucher of.

He Entered the Spa & while handing over his  Printed Voucher introduced himself, “Hi I am Ankur Khanna; I had called up today morning and have a Booking at 6”

The Lady smiled back… Took his Voucher and then scanned his Voucher and her face turned Pale.

The Only thing she said was “Sir, This Voucher has been used already yesterday” and she fished out another Voucher with some ink marks.

“The Paper quality of that Voucher was not very good and even the colour of the paper was Pale yellow instead of white”

The Massage was not given, however the Message was conveyed!

Tasting of “Mango Chutney”

2014-08-14 20.17.57

Oxford Book Store and Rumour Books India welcoming us at the Book Launch

There are some people in whose Company you feel elated and feel like you too can become an Achiever.

There are some Places, where you get so many positive vibes that one gets a feeling that you too can make a Big Space for yourself.

There are some moments, where you love what’s happening around you and be thankful to the almighty for those moments that have passed, happening and about to come.

Yesterday was an Amalgamation of these. First being the presence of Harsh Snehanshu Bhai and Awesome Authors of Mango Chutney.

2014-08-14 19.39.11

Some of the bright Authors on the Stage.

Secondly being in a Book Store. Book Stores and Libraries in itself are Place over flowing with Positivity, Thoughts, Actions and more so because it has Books in which are sealed Imaginations, Experiences of so so many people. And on top of it, This was a Book Shop housed in an 80 year old Building with Double Height floor, Big Windows and lots of Chai Aroma seeping in through the Cha Bar in the Complex.

Third being one of the many Keen readers who had come to attend the launch & also know more about the Awesomeness called Mango Chutney.

2014-08-14 19.45.48

Oh yes we had the Beautiful Gurleen Kaur & the Elegant Sakshi Bhasin Tulsian to give us company. The Bulbs that Lighten mine and Ashish Tuslian’s Life respectively.

Also, I learnt that when we write then we should “Show, Not Tell”

Am Glad, that unknowingly I have already been doing it since I started writing for self.
Also, I am a Person who writes real long sentences. And some how that may break a Readers flow or may confuse her. So better to write shorter sentences. I shall work on it.

Also, one learning which I came back with was that I need to Read Aloud and Work on my Voice Pitch and  Voice Modulation.
I’m not bad at it, But when story  “The Rejection Ceremony” by Shubham Kapur was read out by Ms Ramya Maddali, I realised how exactly it should be., The Way she did it!!

Thanks Ramya!

School Student becomes an Entrepreneur

Circa 1994.

This was the year when my results for Class 10th board were announced. And to me, it seemed as if I have crossed the English Channel even without knowing Swimming.

Ok, I know I am exaggerating. But believe me I didn’t study for my boards. Apart from English no Subject lured me enough to study it. And whatever English I would study and learn, would go waste, because due to my BAD handwriting my teacher was not able to decipher what I had written.

Anyways, I was relieved that now Board Exam is after 2 years… And I can LIVE!!!

For me Living would mean, going back to the days, when I went to Pragati Maidan for any and every kind of Exhibition that was running or to hire Video cassettes of Hindi Movies or Pakistani Plays or Tom & Jerry cartoons.

I loved Pakistani Plays more, the Comedy ones Like Bakra Qisto Pay, Buddha Ghar par hai, Nayee Ammi Purane Abba etc etc.

bakra quiston pay

Umar Shareef was the person who made Pakistani Comedy Plays So Popular. If you note closely , you may find DNA is same in Comedy Nights with Kapil

And all these Cassettes were rented from a Video Library just 2 houses away from ours in Karol Bagh.

The Uncle who ran this Shop was an Amazing person. He was first a Neighbour, A Family member and then a person from whom we rented cassettes.

I remember, once Budda Ghar par had released and I went to his Video Library and asked uncle “Budda ghar par” hai?

And he cutely Said “Yes beta,Saamne baitha hai” ha ha ha ha….. Such was the relation :-)

Most of the Times, when we used to go to get a cassette, Aunty would ask us to wait and then would cook some Delicious Anda paranthas. I still yearn for those tasty Paranthas.
I can still eat them, but for that, I need to go to London and not walk down a few steps as I did Earlier. As aunty is settled there now.

After my Exams…. I went to Uncle’s shop and asked for a few latest videos and he told me that he does not have it and shared his decision of closing down the Library.

For Sure, it made me sad and then I Casually asked him what he would do with these 700 cassettes.

And he replied he shall sell them at throwaway price at the earliest

I went back to home, Read an India Today magazine and “while I was trying to sleep the crazy entrepreneur in my awakened”.

I decided to buy the entire collection for Rs 7000 (Rs 10 a piece)

it

Sep 1994 issue of India Today, I began to Read Every India Today Word to word since I was in Class 8th and whatever English I have learnt is thanks to the Magazine.

Next morning I shared my decision with my father and asked for the money. He asked my Plan, Smiled and gave me the money.

I went to uncle, gave him my offer, he Smiled and Accepted the money.

In my House, I had a Small room on Mezzanine Floor. The kind of room, where If I went today… I would not even be able to stand straight due to its low height.

So, I made around 30 Trips for 2 days, Every trip had me carrying 20 cassettes & dropping it to my room.

VIDEO CASSETTES

(An Actual photo of those cassettes in my Room, neatly Stacked as if it’s in an Actual Video Library)

Decision Taken, Money paid, Cassettes in my Custody, Now What!!

So, the First Step I took was to Sort them. English Separate, Hindi Separate, Pakistani Plays Separate and then sorted it according to new and Old. Next step was to sort them as Original and Recorded.

sorting

Sorting was one process That I Loved & today when looking back, I realise that probably Sorting helped me Focus on what to Sell/Push. Also, it is Very Akin to Setting priorities in Life.

Uske baad I fixed the price for New Original Movies @Rs 50. Then I spread a Word of the same to my School Friends and Home Friends about it. They seemed Excited and I sold 40 of them in the same weekend.

40 Units * Rs. 50 = Rs. 2000

I still remember, one of them was “Shahenshah”(Can be Spotted in the Pic above) and was a Special Double Pack and I sold it for Rs 80. Rest was priced at Rs 25.

Out of them, there were 40 of them which were not named. MY only fear was that they could either be Blank, Corrupted or even Porn.

And Porn was the last thing I wanted to sell.

So, I gathered some Courage and asked Uncle if any of the cassettes were X, Double X or Triple X.

He answered in negative. I was not sure whether I felt Relieved or was Disappointed.

xxx

Anyways, a query cleared I focused on selling my cassettes and in a Month Sold 300 of them and collected Rs. 10,000.(Average rate Rs 35)

Out of the Money Collected,I Returned Rs 7000 to my Dad. Along with the amount was a small gift, because he had loaned me that money.

After a Month, I had Rs 3000 profit and still 400 Cassettes to Sell. I had already exhausted all my resources and had no Idea what to do with them.

If by any chance, you would have read my BLOG The Gift of Lessons, My Gifting Company Taught Me, You would know that I was a Frequent Visitor to “Sunday Chor Bazaar” behind Red Fort in Delhi

So, One Day I decided to go there and check if any trader there would be willing to buy the remaining cassettes.

So, I went one Sunday morning and talked to a few shopkeepers selling VCR’s and TV’s and shared my reason to be there. Thank Fully, One of them agreed to come to my home and inspect the Cassettes the same day.

Within 2 hours, he was at my home, and after giving the cassettes a Glance, he offered Rs 7 per Cassette!!!!!!

The feeling I got was so Awesome, that I said YES, without Bargaining!

So, that Sunday my Month Long Rendezvous with those cassettes ended and left me Richer by Rs 5800, Increased Self Confidence & Lots of Contentment.

After that I had many more of these Short and Long Term Entrepreneurial Experiences which I shall be sharing in my Blogs to come.

Thanks a Lot for Reading TILL HERE!
